We think the Major Geeks service is a great online tool generally.
Unfortunately, people can’t reply to issues raised unless they’re a Major Geeks admin or staff member - which means we’re standing by watching people accuse OutfoxTV of being a virus or Malware, and in their spirit of kindness and helpfulness, the Major Geeks crew is responding with solutions to solve a Malware infection.
Calling all Major Geeks - OutfoxTV is NOT Malware!!
Please realize you’re asking people to install more software and run through a whole bunch of steps that are totally unnecessary. We suspect you’re also falling for some of the spam the odd IT support services put out there to try to create a virus where there is no virus.
Just for anyone who missed the truth (!) - OutfoxTV contains no malicious code - there’s no such thing as an Outfox.TV virus and no such thing as Outfox TV Malware. Please please note!
This is some of the posts from Major Geeks forum and the content and advice being given. PLEASE NOTE, none of these solution steps outlined below are necessary!
Hi i have two computers that have recently got infected. I recently downloaded outfox.tv bundled with another program. From what I can tell outfox.tv is only 21 days old. Both Internet Explorer and Firefox redirect to : outfox.tv/?referid=170
The computer desktop is a Dell Inc. Inspiron 570 running Win 7 home premium 64 bit. I did all the steps under the read me for browser redirect and that did not solve the problems. I ran the Microsoft Malicious software tool and that showed no infection. Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro showed no infection either. Then as instructed I ran TDSKiller and no threats were found. I then ran Roguekiller and MGtools. I am posting the logs attached. I understand a response will take some time. Please advise on tow to remove the malware from my system. Thank you in advance.
A whole host of solutions were offered, but the ideal way to return the machine to original state is
1. Run OutfoxTV’s own uninstaller from the Start / All Programs / OutfoxTV / Uninstall link (or from Control Panel / Uninstall / Choose OutfoxTV and click ‘Change’ then uninstall
2. Restart the PC
3. Upon restart, *IF* the saved browser tabs aren’t removed during uninstall, just change these manually - these are just settings that have not been restored to original, not left over portions of the program!
Another enquirer posted :
I was motivated to sign up because I have a solution to the removal of OutFox TV, which I found came up on every tab. I hated it.
I wrote Outfox and was told this. (it actually worked!)
NEW TAB SETTING - FIREFOX
The new tab in Firefox may also open the website <snip>. To reset this type the following in your Firefox browser address bar:
about:config then <enter>
then in the search box enter :
Double click on the line / field for browser.newtab.URL
You can then change the value of the new tab to be anything you require.
With my appreciation to all who have assisted me .
A number of ideas were floated specifically around malware removal tools. but OutfoxTV doesn’t contain Malware. As the OP listed, the solution we provided worked.
In fact, we are just releasing an update today that should remove the new browser tab issue, and in fact stop this happening in all existing installations.
Another poster added a new thread :
I know i recently posted on here about my dad but today its me.
Just a simple thing went wrong, today i downloaded an update for imgburn off Majorgeeks and it installed a thing called Outfox TV. I managed to uninstall it but it has redirected my browser and i cannot change it back.
I tried to fix it using the Fixing Google Redirection/Hijacking Problems bit but no luck. I also tried to remove it using your malware removal page but again no luck.
Would you mind having a look at the logs and suggesting a way i can redirect my home page back to google.
My comp is a Dell inspiron N5010
Intel cor i3 2.53ghz
3 gb ram
64x operating system
I will attach the logs to this thread. also hitman pro my trial licence has expired
Cheers for your help
There were a number of suggested solutions and risks raised, but the fact of the matter is our own uninstall and the manual reset of the browser is all that was needed to return the system to its previous state. It would have saved everyone a lot of time!
Another issue as stated as :

The reason no antivirus programs do anything is there is NO VIRUS attached to OutfoxTV. Getting a sore brain repeating this.
Major Geeks were being helpful and responded with a whole lot of steps. But all that was needed was using the standard uninstaller, and if the browser settings didn’t remove, a manual reset of the browser start page. It doesn’t need to be this difficult guys!
The most recent Major Geeks issue was this one :
First off guys, I’m not a geek. I have common sense, but I am sort of computer illiterate. I downloaded a program anbd it also gave me OUTFOX.TV. When I add a window in Mozzilla, this page comes up: outfox.tv/?referid=180 I’m running Window 8.1. I have Webroot. I have Malware. I tried AGV and Kapersky. Nothing can get rid of the f***ing thing. On a good note, it doesn’t effect any other users, and when I do add a window, my Webroot catches it and tells me not to go any further, but I just can’t get rid of this. Help if you can, and tell me in layman’s terms how to delete this thing forever.. Thanks in advance
MG, in their spirit of helping replied with :
We’ll get it gone.
Follow these procedures please, and once done, attach all of the requested logs.

Even the original poster said :
Holy hell that’s a lot of stuff to read and do. I’ll get to it later today and knowing me, I’ll probably have questions on how to find something or how to do something and I’ll have to follow up with some questions. I knew that I should have studied computers instead of music in college …
That’s because it IS a hell of a lot to do!! If we were allowed to post a reply on there we could have kept it down to :
a) Run the inbuilt uninstaller
b) Restart your PC
c) *If* outfox.tv is still your browser start page reset it using the native browser command in its settings.
Isn’t that a bit easier??
We reiterate Major Geeks is an awesome community. But the paranoia about malware and viruses doesn’t mean every piece of software is run by bad people! We made some mistakes with early beta and the browser settings, which annoyed people, but they’re fixed now. The release due out on Monday is going to provide a much smoother and more custmisable experience for everyone.
PLEASE, give us (and people who are asking for help removing a non-existent malware/virus) a break!
